Re:Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen 5 BIOS 1.19 problems with USB-C

2021-07-21, 8:33 AM

I can only echo Joost here.
Poor QA job here Lenovo. You publish BIOS code wish has a quite basic problem build in to it.
Please drag out a X1 Carbon gen 8 in tour lab, flash 1.19 - and attach an external display using USB-C. No video. Its that simple.

I honestly dont give much for standard replies such as “did you reboot windows” and “set all bios values to default”.

Look at the content of Joost and my input. We know what we are talking about.
Bring the info to level 3, so they can take the decission to pull the buggy firmware and publish a new version later with a fix - and pls. Test properly.

Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen5 Type 20UC: external monitor no longer detected

2021-07-21, 11:00 AM

Hi,

I have a brand new Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen5 Type 20UC, which I keep up to date. It worked with external monitor connected to the HDMI port.
There was a bios update yesterday, which was successfully installed.

When I switch on the laptop this morning, the external Monitor is not detected. I also tried to connect the monitor to USB-C-Hub. Unfortunately without luck.

The monitor can be used, if I connect the monitor to other laptop. The issue is not with the monitor nor it is the cable troubling.

I've tried pressing the reset button in the bottom of the laptop. But the problem is persisting.

FYI: If I go to the device manager and look under System Devices, there is no "Thunderbolt(TM) Controller" listed.

Please advice.

Regards

Mike

Re:Issues with 1.19 Firmware on X1 Carbon 8th gen 20UA

2021-07-21, 16:25 PM

We have had the same issue today.  After firmware version 1.19 was installed, the external displays were no longer working (for both the dock and the HDMI port).  Downgrading to 1.18 resolved the issue.

Hello SpeyererBub,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

Kindly load the BIOS default settings, be sure to save and exit.
Then go to the support site, download and install the latest drivers.
Also check the Thunderbolt firmware.
Update us how it goes.

Regards,
Lorenzo_Lenovo

Re:X1 C8: HDMI not working after BIOS 1.19 update

Hi @Lorenzo_Lenovo ,

Thanks for you reply.

The BIOS 1.19 update was done through the Lenovo Vantage software, so it required no manual intervention. I'm not aware of any additional steps needed after the instalation is finished.

For downgrading to BIOS 1.18, I went to your website and downloaded the windows installer for my product. I also had to deactivate the Secure RollBack Prevention in the BIOS.

I assume eventually the HDMI problem will be fixed in a subsequent BIOS version, possibly 1.20.

I now have to keep using BIOS 1.18 as the 1.19 breaks my HDMI Port. However, is says on the read me for BIOS 1.19 that this includes a security fix so I might be at risk while this problem is not solved.

Best,

Tiago

Thanks for the replay, I know what DOS is...trust me there is an issue with 1.19 and it should be recalled.
