Re:Keeping keyboard backlit ALWAYS ON on X270

How can this still be an issue? Automatic backlight control is STILL NOT implemented in Lenovo Vantage or other places. Running T480 and Windows 10.

I think it ll be very similar for most Lenovo laptops according identical keyboard HW.

Beside SW solution there is very simple HW possibility to bridge LED supply

for PWR Button illumination and Backlit PWR supply pin.

They are placed next to each other directly on keyboard terminal.

First of all check keyboard illumination settings in Bios. options are  Backlit keyboard only / Thinkapad light only / Both

Described possibility bellow is targeted for Thinkpad T530 / T530i / T430 / T430s / X230 / W530  ....

PWR LED pin 23 and BL PWR pin 25. Both of them are GPIOs  so dont wary about sufficient

or excessive currents. Typical Voltage for GPIOs is 3,3V.

Backlit supply becomes from GPIO153/LED2 - U23C (ic2 MEC1619 )

and PWR LED from LED1/GPIO157 - U23B (ic1 MEC1619 )

Its possible to realize bridge directly on Keyboard or on the laptop MB ...

MB bridge gives possibility to get unrestricted voltage bypassing

the resistor R13 220 Ohm 5% 1005_1/16w ...

This bridge is easy to do and gives  very interesting ( permanent ) backlit behaviour

related to PWR LED illumination without any programming  .... :-)

Similar Efective HW solution for  Lenovo X270 could be done by bridging directly the MBs

ThinkEngine chip (MEC1653) output pin M9 - PWM0/GPIO053 as signal KBD_BL_PWM

and output pin F5 -LED1/GPIO157 as signal LED_PWR

proper location to place the bridge has to be considered by service specialist.

Many thanks for suggesting "Auto Backlight for ThinkPad".

Very interested in this!

Unfortunately it did not work for my X1 Extreme Gen 1 (Win10 Pro 64-bit English).

Successfully installed it, but when try to run the Program from Start menu, the

Windows mouse pointer just spins around for a few seconds, and then nothing.

No Program in taskbar or systemtray. No dialogue window. Nothing.

Perhaps recent (big) Win10 Windows Updates broke this "Auto Backlight for ThinkPad"?

(I still WANT to get this up and running!)

Daily Driver: X1 Extreme Gen 3 (X1E-3) | WWAN (mobile broadband)
X1E-3, X1E-1, X1C-9, X1C-4, X1C-3, X250, X230
Retired Thinkpads: T410, T42, 560 (circa 1996)
Also: IBM Thinkpad era computer bag !
