Latency issues with new X1 Extreme Gen2

2019-11-02, 10:43 AM

I need heeeelp :((

I can't use my DAW (musicprogram) because the sound is popping and stuttering...

I tested my latency dpc with two programs ... LatencyMon and DPC Latency Check..

they both tell me that there are a lot issues with latency and drivers... mainly the acpi.sys driver creates trouble...

I catched up nearly every tip on the web...

I set my powermanagement to max performance... updated every driver... updated to windows v 1904...deactivated network, bluetooth and firewall stuff.. and so on

I'm at the end and want to send my notebook back, or someone of you has an idea... is this notebook just useless for musicproductions??

Greetings from Hamburg City

Ok... here is a new Idea:

My last hope...

does someone owns the same notebook (x1 extreme gen2) and doesn't get these latency errors with latencymon??

If it is like that it could be an error only at my system..

by the way: I just reinstalled windows try some tips from yt right now.. wish me luck

Hey,

I was really considering X1e Gen 2, but the dpc latency seems to be consistently present in all models I've read about. There is a lot less info on P1 Gen 2. Given professional grade components, I figured the latency may be less... but there seems to be very few DAW users with P1s... Let me know what happens to you.

Cheers!

I hope you still have your device...

I faces the same issue and tried a lot.

Finaly the following helps:

- Uninstall Lenovo Vintage Software (incl. Vintage Service)

- Update Bluethooth and WiFi Driver with Intel Update Service

- Tweeking all Power-Saving options for USB/CPU and Display

- Update Video driver (via Device-Manager --> Update Driver)

ACPI.sys dropped from over 2.5 ms to 0.9 ms - wich is fine for DAW.

I hope this hepls other as well.

Tell me if that worked out for you as it did for me.

(It took me at least 12 hours to come to that point.)

@Lenovo: I believe it's your Battery Management within the Vintage-App. Can you improve here?

Re: Latency issues with new X1 Extreme Gen2

hey Joschi,

I'm so sorry for that! Actualy I can work with my Thinkpad... but only for little projects like little song arrangements, sound design, records of grooves of my hardware instruments and also mastering (with a fx chain of 8 effects!!!).

I have set my interfaces buffer size to 512 - 2048 samples (apogee one interface) and I can work with it quite good, nothing for live recording situations because of the bad audio latency...I have worked the whole weekend on serveral little projects. Surprise surprise the most time I had no popps and stutterings. But as I said: these projects had less than 8 channels (but also with cpu hungry vst plugins like u-he diva it mostly worked fine) I think its better to deactivate your wlan while working. I also also have disabled cpu throtteling...have you  ever tried this?

Sometimes when I have started my DAW after doing other stuff in windows the problems and popps began again . I can't say at which point the problems start. than I reconnected my interface and restarted the daw again... surprise suprise I was able to work for hours without errors. For me it's enough to be creative and start with good ideas.. with these ideas I can go in my studio  to finish it on my desktop computer...

Next step will be to build up a little live set in ableton live with a controller and let me say 20 loops... some fx. I hope this works!!!

cheers

If you name the DAW you are using I can test (if they have a demo version) the same on my X1E2 and let you know how it went.

As for the 2 latency tools you mentioned, I just ran them while having multiple programs open and did not notice major issues, see attached screenshot.

To have a good test you need an Audio Device with ASIO-Drivers (for Low Latency Performance).

As a workaround you can use ASIO4ALL Driver to use the internal Audio Interface for that.

I use Steinberg's Cubase 10 as a DAW.

Currently I'm running with 512 bit Buffer size to avoid clicks and pops (drop outs).

This is doubled in size to my "old" system - I would expect to have at least the same buffer size (256).

Funny to see your results. How long did your test run?

Have you done any tweeks?

Sometimes the test results are like your screen, yesterday I passed the 2500 µs every 10 sec.

Thanks for your insights.

I use it for live playing and for a device in this price range I simply expect more - and there are systems in the market that doesn't face that kind of issues.

Your screen showed about 0,8 ms for the ACPI.sys - I would be happy to reach that value at max but my system is slower.

How did you disable CPU throttling? (maybe my tweeks were bad...)
