Re: Latency issues with new X1 Extreme Gen2

I did not change anything about the CPU at all. I used to test undervolting, but I had a couple crashes and now I am running on default. Only thing I did for this test was to change the power mode to Best performance. Usually I have it on Best battery life to keep the fans off/silent.
If I were you I would try following things: install Windows again, maybe on another SSD if you have. Do not install anything but DAW and other audio production software. Check some forums and videos about tweaking the system for audio production, stopping everything unrelated. Measure latency again.

And if weren't you, but myself: I would do a minimal Arch install with alternative software, e.g. Bitwig and test things there. I have bad experiences with Windows, exactly like this. When there are 80 processes running and I don't know 75 of them, then anything can go wrong.

Re: Latency issues with new X1 Extreme Gen2

That was exactly what I did.

I bought this device just for music production and just installed Audio Driver, Apple Bonjour (for Cubase IC Pro), Cubase, Steinberg and NI VSTs.

Of Course I installed Latencymon as well.

After that I changed the energy options to maximum performance.

Tests were done with and without activated WiFi (same behavior).

But for Cubase IC Pro (on iPad) I need WiFi and at home I need Ethernet - so working without network is not an option.

I even deinstalled Lenovo Vantage (because I suspected this was the bad boy) but this action just improved a little and for a short time.

For realistic results you should use LatencyMon for over 5 minutes....

But your results are ok in my opinion!  What is the difference to my X1E2 ? Hmm :) :(

I use Studio One....

You are right, my results did get a lot worse after running LatencyMon for 5+ minutes. interrupt to latency at 2625 µs, ISR 2351 µs, DPC 2643 µs.

I am not a professional musician, but for many reasons considering fully switching to Arch. I have been playing around with Arch in recent months, both on the X1E2 and on my LG gram 17. Check these for starters:
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (Gen 2)

Professional audio

Thanks for your last reply.

Now I'm more relaxed - I questioned myself...

I'll open a support ticket at Lenovo.

I believe that's nothing we can do on the configuration side - it's more something Lenovo needs to fix with their BIOS or Driver(s)...

Thanks for your comments.

Looks like I need to return this device and choose a better one.

Sad - so much money and now this... I thought I will avoid this by buying a power horse. :smileyfrustrated:

@JoschiC: buying a latest model is always a bit of a gamble. If you want to go safe, best to buy a model that many are already using for the purpose you mean to use it for.

@TKMusic1: what do you mean you "exactly tried this", switching to a minimal Arch linux install? You had the same latency issues?

I have installed a fresh windows 10 copy on my second ssd (btw not the windows version from lenovo) and only my daw... the issues haven't gone...

I didn't tried to install linux.. but it wouldn't help me anyway because linux is nearly useless for audioproduction
