Latest Intel Graphics Driver Makes Display Dim

2020-03-04, 5:14 AM

I just installed the latest Intel Graphics Driver 26.20.100.7811 on my X1 Yoga Gen 4.  As soon as the update was installed, the display got a lot dimmer.  I've disabled every possible display power saving setting and it hasn't helped.  Even when I go into the Intel Graphics Panel to disable display power saving settings, it doesn't do anything and upon restarting my system it doesn't save my settings.  Anyone out there having this issue too?

UPDATE:  I rolled back to the previous driver 26.20.100.7528 and my display is bright again.  The problem still persists when I go into the Intel Graphics Panel and under power I disable all display power saving settings and save and exit.  But when I restart the system and check to see if my settings are still saved, it reverts back to the original settings.

Hopefully they'll come out with a fix soon. In the meantime I just rolled back the driver and my display is back to normal.

Same problem.   This is day ONE using my new X1 carbon, worked fine for a few hours, it updated drivers, and then the display was really dim.  Rolled back graphics driver per Google and it works brighness back up...but is this just going to keep happening??

So I've just reverted back manually to the Intel HD Graphics Driver 26.20.100.7528 for the umpteenth time because either Lenovo Vantage or Windows Update keep pushing in the newer driver versions which cause my display to dim every single time. Is that how this is supposed to work from now on??

Same issue here with my X1 Yoga 4th Gen (20QF) with the 4k panel.  Older driver brings back the higher nit settings.  Tried to disable all the power saving stuff in the Intel GFX settings, but nothing works except rolling the driver back.

X1 Extreme G2 with FHD HDR 500 nits display. Same issue here with a dimmer display after Windows update installed 'Intel Corporation Display 26.20.100.7811 over my previous Lenovo driver 26.20.100.7529.

We need a patch or a new driver from Lenovo, assuming the next Windows updates will not mess up everything again.

What's for to rollback the display driver if Windows update is going to download the broken driver over the Lenovo 26.20.100.7529 driver again?

Is it effective to rollback from the control panel/device manager?

Looks like Windows uses the new bad driver as inbox now so my method of uninstalling the driver doesn't work any more since Windows just immediately reinstalls it.  Is there a way to download/force the last "good" driver?

So you can stop Windows 10 from auto-updating drivers for your workstation (will prevent the display drivers from being over-written

  1. Goto Control Panel (classic control panel in Windows 10) > System > Advanced System Settings > Hardware Tab > Under 'Device Installation Settings' click 'Device Installation Settings' and select 'No' to stop Windows Update from auto-installing drivers.

2. Once done Download & Run Display Driver Uninstallation tool and clear out all your drivers for graphics cards then re-install the Lenovo ones.

3. I've noticed within the 'Intel Graphics Control Panel' there's an option to enable 'Display Power Saving Technology' which dynamically adjusts the backlight intensity to save power -- I disabled this and it showed a massive improvement straight away and my display went back to beautifully bright n clear -- probably what's going on with other peoples laptops? -- might want to check this out

Hope this helps!
