Re:Latest Intel Graphics Driver Makes Display Dim

the 'brightness' slider just toggles a whiteness hue overlay on the screen, it does not increase the brightness of the physical display itself. As posted i dont know how many times windows maximum brightness is significantly lower with anything other than the original display driver.

Thank you for your opinion but the issue is a big issue, if youre not experiencing it then great! but a huge sample of us seem to be all reporting the same issue.

Exactly.  We've tried these things and it does not at all fix the issue.  The brightness slider for people that are experiencing this issue makes the screen awkwardly white, but does nothing to fix the brightness issue caused by the graphics driver.

Same issue as everyone else, with x1 carbon 7gen. Question; when I install an older driver that works, and close the lid of the computer, upon reopening, the screen is dim again, and can only be fixed by reinstalling the old driver. Any suggestions?

Thanks -

If your driver keeps "rolling forward" to the latest version, you can disable automatic driver updates. Follow the instructions here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Latest-Intel-Graphics-Driver-Makes-Display-Dim/m-p/5001872?page=1#5042643

If you have the Lenovo Vantage app, you should also disable automatic driver updates there.

Might suggest you use the below method instead, this allows driver updates through for everting apart from the hardware ID's you specify, in this case you would specify the GPU / iGPU -- but it allows everything else to be updated https://forums.lenovo.com/topic/findpost/1301/5001872/5070335

Hi @Julian88 , I'm on X1EGne2 with this same issue. Where did you get the 26.20.100.7529? Intel page doesn't have that version listed. The nearest one to yours is .7584. I tried installing that but doesn't work.https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/98909/Intel-HD-Graphics-630

For those looking for the .7529 driver for the X1 Extreme Gen2, use this official Link from Lenovo servers:

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/N2ODR09W.exe

Be aware that Windows will try several times after the downgrade to reinstall the updated driver, and I noticed that the newest one has better graphics performance.

Also, consider that if you disable Hybrid graphics in BIOS, the problem doesn't ocurr.

This is a major problem for many of us! You have to do something! At least give us a clue, are you working on it or not?

IMO, the most sad part of this situation:

  • This confirms that Lenovo has little or zero communcation with their OEM partners or providers like Intel. This is for sure an Intel driver problem that causes an issue on custom Hardware like the 4K panel. If this has a easy solution, Lenovo should had called months ago to their "friends" at Intel to fix this issue.
  • This proves, again, that Apple has the best Notebooks on the market because they control everything that happens with their Hardware and Software. In fact, the only portion of Hardware that wasn't in control of them was the Intel CPU/GPU combo, and that will be addressed sooner because it is changing to their own Silicon. So, "goodbye Intel!".

So, this brightness issue (and many others) are a new evidence that, if you want a stable, good computers, you might prefer a Mac over a ThinkPad, because you will deal with just ONE company, no two or three.

it just doesn't. make sense.  Lenovo knows the problem and the updated drivers did fix the brightness issue for SOME 4k panels (fixed my yoga 4th gen) but not all.  So the driver fix has been specific LCDs by certain manufacturers.
