Re:Latest Intel Graphics Driver Makes Display Dim

Well, controlled or not. Apple just has a lot less models to take care of. One single model has a significantly larger use base than that of any other manufacturer which makes them easier to detect problems and fix them. This laptop is just not that popular. Probably no company deploys them in a large scale unlike T490 and X1 Carbon. That's why the priority is so low.

@joloriquelme, please stop endorsing Apple. We understand you are a fan of their products, but this thread is for us to report problems on Lenovo's ThinkPads, and you saying over and over again how good Apple's products are do not contribute to the conversation.

These are facts. Not opinions.

Anyway, let's just still wait for a fix for a brightness issue... for the most expensive computer in the lineup, from the larger PC maker in the world.

Good luck to us all!

"Apple has the best Notebooks on the market" is, by definition, an opinion, and one that is not necessary here.

Re:Latest Intel Graphics Driver Makes Display Dim

Update 2: Lenovo's latest driver for Intel 630 [version 27.20.100.8190] doesn't solve the brightness issue. Tried it with Windows version 20H2 and then reverted back to version .7529.

Update 1: The  26.20.100.7811 doesn't solve the issue. Went back to 26.20.100.7529 and the screen is noticeably brighter. When I wrote this it was at night, but this morning, when I compared it to my T470 I figured out that the screen is not showing full brightness. Once reverted to .7529, I get the full brightness. Sorry for the misleading information earlier where I said .7811 fixed the issue.

The problem with .7529 is that, the brightness control is not linear. It has a huge jump when you decrease it  from 100% to 90%.

Model: X1E Gen 2

Windows Version : 20H2

Intel Graphics Driver Version: 26.20.100.7529 [This one enables the full brightness on X1E2]

Bios Version: 1.31

There is no such display dim problem for X1 Yoga gen 5, X1 Carbon Gen 8 and X1 Extreme gen 3.

The dim problem is only associated with Intel UHD 620 and BOE LCD panel, which include X1 Carbon gen 7, X1 yoga gen 4, X1 Extreme Gen 2.

All either older, or newer lenovo laptops, are immuned.

I think this is more like a hardware issue, rather than a software issue.

Let me tell you something funny:

The 'new' X1 Extreme Gen3 have a 600-nits screen.

They use the same Intel driver, so, maybe, a lot of reviewers will going to receive a test unit and they will check that the screen is too dim.

LOL.

Do you by any chance mean UHD 630? Cause my X1E G2 shows UHD 630 in device manager and suffers from this dimming issue. Curious.

I mean old intel 14nm cpu, in yoga.carbon it is called 620, in extreme it is called 630. Both have the problem.

The newer generation intel 10nm cpu does not have a numeric name for graphic, it only shows intel uhd graphic.

Seems right to me. I'll add that the problem is also encountered on a P53 with said iGpu (620) and a high brightness screen (1080p option 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) 500 nits, haven't confirmed the screen manufacturer).

P1 gen 2 owner - 20QUS04L00 - What's going on with these machines anyway ?

Hi guys, i'm Alessandro from Italy. I have same brightness problem since july. I tried every registry hack or similar solution, but nothing worked.. today I disable and re-enable Intel Iris Plus Graphics and I have my maximum brightness back!!!!! Now, just one problem: i can't control brightness, even 10 % is at max brightness. Let me know if my solution works for someone
