Re:Latest Intel Graphics Driver Makes Display Dim

I wasn't able to find the 'adaptive brightness' function in the Intel Graphics Command Center (that replaced the old Intel Control Panel).

So I don't see any up-down brightness effect moving from dark to light images or BTW I don't know how to reproduce this.

Except this, the 7529 is working as it should, or is supposed to.

But I don t know how a real 500 nits brightness screen should be.

When you compared gen2 vs gen3 did you have 7529 running on gen2?

(also taking in account 500 vs 600 nits)

Hey @Julian88 ,

I'm curious about how you went about this full refund. I'm considering doing the same as I am sick of spending so much time fixing up updates and badly validated drivers on this "professional" workstation (P1) I have to put up with everyday. In Switzerland, Lenovo supports considers it "fixed" in their response to our's institution IT service support request ("new windows updates will fix it up" basically) and as I travel and keeping moving abroad I don't want to be bounced around by local IBM supports.

Information on what you had to go through would help me navigate these procedures.

Best,

Just to confirm that 8729 DOES NOT fix the max brightness problem in my X1E2 Gen2, even if it says so in readme ... :(

Re:Latest Intel Graphics Driver Makes Display Dim

luckily / unfortunately, i had a huge number of issues with the laptop

- HDD failure

- Dull pixels / pixel issues , 2nd replacement

- Green stuck pixels on display, 3rd screen replacement

- External / Thunderbolt display issues, motherboard replaced

- random battery drain, hit and miss issue

- Faulty bottom cover of laptop, repeatedly issue

- Missing keystrokes on keyboard (fixed later with bios but was reported before knew this to be the cause)

- low screen brightness

All of these issues eventually culminated in Lenovo approving a full replacement of the device instead of trying to patch issue after issue

The gen3, so far, knock on wood, throw salt over the shoulder, has been flawless

@Julian88

help me please to find that adaptive brightness function, I want to investigate the behaviour.

From Intel Command center (I've Italian language set) I have in \Video menu: 'Correzione Colore standard' - > regola l'aspetto dei colori per i contenuti video.

That s in English something like  \Video \Standard Color Correction \ adapt colors for video contents.

As per default it is not currently enabled (but is that what you mean?).

BTW on gen 2 the only (cross fingers) current issue is graphics driver but the workaround was to install old 7529.

Well I can't say how many nits it 's reproducing at max lev but it seems to me very very bright; I can't keep it on 100% but on average I set it to 80-85% in a room with medium artificial light.

thanks Julian

The intel command centre never disabled the adaptive brightness for me, the settings in the Intel command centre are these:

Even with these disabled i would still see the display dim the brightness if the majority of the content on screen was dark, so for photo editing depending what youre looking at or zoomed in / onto a specific part of the image, the display would adjust the brightness to have the backlight barely on -- even when plugged into power -- causing it to be almost impossible to accurately see what youre doing and then brighten up if you zoome out or change to have a white user interface -- all came down to what was on screen and the backlight adjusting itself even with brightness set to maximum

-- i had to use a github resource i found to disable the annoying as hell stupid behaviour: https://github.com/orev/dpst-control

thanks @Julian88

if can help I 've found it's a known issue, still active, among others, on the last release of the Intel Command Center:

Known issues, in the Power section:  -Display power saving technology resets on reboot.

Known Issues with Intel® Graphics Command Center (Intel® GCC)

So it should occur also on gen 3 isn't it?

The default setting should be disabled, but need someone to confirm.

LENOVO we are still here waiting a driver !! ...a working one!

Here is a quick comparison I have made to highlight the problem (you can see how much brighter the screen is by looking at the keyboard)

X1 extreme gen2 dim screen
