Latest Windows 10 update disables fingerprint reader

I have a X1 carbon 3444 with Windows 10. Fingerprint reader (FPR) was working fine. Sensor is a TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor by AuthenTec. The latest Windows 10 update around Christmas resulted in the FPR dissappearing despite device manager showing as working. Tried rolling back driver from 1.6.2.352 to 1.6.1.341 with no help. Tried uninstalling the Lenovo FPR software to see if Windows Hello would see it - but no. Reinstalled Lenovo FPR software

g1f914ww_64.exe still no result showing

Checked Bios and FPR is enabled.

Contacted Microsoft who after checking my system and not being able to solve it advised to reinstall windows 10, which I did, and although being reassured this would fix it - has not.

Anyone with any ideas?

Re: Latest Windows 10 update disables fingerprint reader

Contacted Microsoft again - said Windows 10 Annaversery update is not compatible - suggested rolling back to V 1511. Asked them to log the issue details for a fix in the next Win10 release - no promises. Advised that I should raise it to Lenovo to also create drivers for Win10, Lenovo?

Re: Latest Windows 10 update disables fingerprint reader

I have 1st Gen X1 Carbon with all Windows 10 updates installed and I am able to use the fingerprint reader perfectly fine. What I did was install the Synaptics Fingerprint Reader driver (not FPR software from Lenovo). Reboot. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options on left > Under "Windows Hello", you'll see option to add your fingerprints.

Maybe newer models are different, but I doubt.

Note: I have never used Fingerprint reader software from Lenovo.

Re: Latest Windows 10 update disables fingerprint reader

Installed latest Windows Updates for 1607 just released - no change. I tried the Synaptics Fingerprint Reader as nothing to loose- but no good (long shot as is wrong hardware as is for "Synaptics WBDI (SGX Enabled)" in device manager)

The main reason is probably Authentec who made the TouchChip was bought by Apple in 2013

Re: Latest Windows 10 update disables fingerprint reader

My T530 and X230 are running Win10 Anniversary Update (1607) and there's no problem with ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 6.0.0.8102 and TouchChip Fingerprint driver 1.6.2.352

Hi. I followed your process but just told that "Windows Hello isn't available on this device."

Re: Latest Windows 10 update disables fingerprint reader

X1 carbon 20A7 is not the same as X1 carbon 3444, and uses a different sensor

Your fingerprint reader is located to the right of the keyboard.

The 3444 fingerprint reader is located below the arrow down key
