Lenova X240: Need help to upgrade to SSD.

2015-01-09, 3:01 AM

Hi.

This will be my first HDD to SSD upgrade.

I am looking to purchase Lenova ThinkPad X240 laptop from the Lenova website.

The disk is stated having 500GB HDD 7200pm, 2.5''.

Will be looking to upgrade:

Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Notebook Kit Version Internal Solid State Drive.

Here is the full product link from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E3W19CE

This SSD from Amazon is the kit version having the SSD + adapter & handles the complete HDD to SSD disk imaging.

Questions:

Is the above 840 SSD compatible with the ThinkPad X240?

If the 840 is not compatible, can you suggest:

  1. A 250GB compatible SSD having the kit version. OR w/o kit

  2. Standalone 250GB SSD. Software & Adapter to perform HDD to SDD upgrade.

Thanks.

TC

Repace the HDD with SSD? You need to reinstall OS.

I think the SSD works on X240.

Another solutions is that you need a NGFF M.2 SSD (maxium 128G is supported as 256G or more is longer), this way you can keep  the HDD in place and migrate OS to the NGFF SSD.

Hi pengjiayou.

The Samsung 840 SSD I am planning to purchase is the Kit version.

It is stated to perform the complete cloning of HDD to SSD including the OS.

Are you saying I still need to manually reinstall the OS after using the Kit version?

TC.
