Re: Lenovo Carbon X1 SSD driver and firmware (Samsung SM951)

Looks like X1 Carbon (Generation 3) will only support ACHI interface for the Samsung SM951 SSD.

(We did put in Feature Request for NVMe support for X1 Gen3, but was ignored).

Now that X1 Carbon (Generation 4) had just been announced Jan 2016 with NVMe 1.0 support.

BUT the NVMe consortium is already harping about a proposed NVMe 1.2 that uses (hijacks) your RAM to make SSD cheaper going forward, suggesting that even this NVMe interface is a construction-in-process.

So looking for exact replacement for your SSD 3-5 yrs down the road is very difficult to find by then.

Re: Lenovo Carbon X1 SSD driver and firmware (Samsung SM951)

As a follow-up to my issue, I ended up getting a replacement device from Lenovo that worked properly with the SSD. I think it was just a bad motherboard or controller or something simple.

Not really a "solution" per se, but it worked!

Thanks for share. I am so curious about how exactly snake88 did to get things done.
