Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd Gen USB Port Problem

2021-04-13, 15:18 PM

Hi,

I have a problem with one of my USB ports (the right one / no battery symbol there).

If I connect my USB dongle for my bluetooth mouth or any other USB stick to read data from, it will not be detected.

I thought it may be a driver or hardware problem. So I updated all drivers and also checked if the same devices work on the other USB port and they do.

I now found out that if I connect my smartphone (Huawei P30) via cable in the USB port, it detects it and I am able to transfer all data as usual.

I searched for this problem but fount nothing.

Anyone had this problem so far?

Hello roman1209,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

I suggest that you go to BIOS, load the default settings then save before exiting.
Another step to try is updating the firmware.

Hope this helps

Dear Lorenzo,

thank you for your quick reply.

Default setting in BIOS did not solve my problem.

I also run the lenovo diagnostic tool severel times and the automatic driver update also said there are no updates.

I tried to update the driver via the Windows device manager under USB controllers, also did not solve my problem.

I did not found any specific firmware for the USB port on the Lenovo website.

USB still working with my smartphone connected, any other device will not work.

Any other ideas which i could try?

The other ports work with the USB stick and other devices.

On this said port, we can assume isolate failure on it.

A working phone plug may just be accommodating it with its own power but would it able to charge it or just transfer data?

Yes the 2nd USB port works with every device as intended.

Would a isolate failure be a hardware problem?

Could a reinstallation of Windows maybe solve the problem?

If I plug in my phone, it will be charged by the notebook AND I can also transfer data, so everything works fine with the smartphone.

Since other ports are working fine, and they are also managed thru the same controller then perhaps having the machine investigated internally in a service center would likely confirm this.
