Lenovo Thinkpad X1 - Very SLOW startup

Hello guys !

Julian here, IT tech in Switzerland.

We've ordered a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 for one of our top user here, and since one week we are facing a strange issue. Well, it might be from longer than that, but the user cannot remember...

The thing is, even though this computer should be as fast as a running horse, its startup is really slow. By startup, I mean the time between I press the power-on button, and the time the Thinkvantage logo appears on screen. It takes easily more than 20 seconds.

I've been updating all drivers using System update, but it didn't change anything. Latest BIOS also.

Except than that, this computer is running fine, no slowness or bluescreen, which for me is eliminating any hardware issue.

Would any of you have any idea on what is making this computer so slow to startup ?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Julian

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 - Very SLOW startup

Hello Ceb,

Thanks for your messages.

SSD is listed as INTEL SSDSA2BW160G3L.

I might try to download latest frimware directly form Intel support pages, but isn't Lenovo developing their own custom SSD firmwares ?

According to System Update and Lenovo support drivers page, all drivers are up to date.

The only thing strange to me is that neither of them are proposing Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers...

But as this computer is the one of a top management user, I just cannot afford to try to update its SSD drive firmware, risking to corrupt some precious data.

Under System Configuration, how many programs do you have under Startup?

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 - Very SLOW startup

Hello lead_org,

Thank you for your message.

Not that much softwares running at the startup of Windows.

Plus, booting Windows after the login is pretty fast, It's the time between the moment I press the Powerbutton and the moment the Thinkvantage screen will appear that is so long. This morning, the user had time to press the power button, get a coffee, and gave me a call, before the computer would actually "boot up". Once logged in, the computer is running fine.

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 - Very SLOW startup

If you mean the "Diagnostic startup" selectable in "msconfig", not it's not.

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 - Very SLOW startup

under bios menu, go to startup, is your boot mode 'Diagnostic or Quick'. Also, what is your hdd boot order in your bios menu? is it the first?

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 - Very SLOW startup

Hello everyone I have the same problem, about 50 seconds from power up to mouse movement.

Once booted up the computer runs perfectly fast however.

I have a Scan Disk sold state, and I am in quick boot mode in my bios.

I only have about 7 items on my msconfig start up too something is wrong.

Any ideas or direction would be much appreciated.  thanks!
