Lenovo X1 Carbon: FN key behavior

2016-01-21, 4:10 AM

I have a question about the behavior of the FN key on the Lenovo Carbon X1.  Does the FN latch when pressed and illuminate the LED in the upper right corner of the key?

The FN key on this keyboard does not latch or illuminate the LED when pressed.  Instead of latching and maintaining the normal function key, for instance "Alt" + "F4" closing a program, it remains on the Lenovo mapped functions, muting the microphone.  Should the FN key behave like the Shift key or the CapsLock key.

Thanks,

Good day and welcome to the community.

Try pressing and holding the Fn key and then tapping Esc to enable FnLk. That should switch the default action of the Fn-row keys to F1, F2, etc. Repeating Fn+Esc will reverse the default action and extinguish the LED.

Does this help?

Regards.

Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon: FN key behavior

i have been using thinkpads for close to 20 years and i installed win 7 on my x1. the function for brightness sound etc worked fine but  i just spent 3hrs tying to figure out why the standard Thinkpad FN+ keys. like FN+F5 for access connections did not work.  i went through forums, installed drivers, read what ever i could.  well i found out THE KEYS HAVE BEEN REARRANGED.  FN+F5 is now just F8.  i like it better but i wish someone had mentioned it,
