I was referring to the Windows power profiles when I referred to balanced mode

@ N9FvfhqNDpHy4V

Thanks for reporting. You just tested on 21.04 and kernel 5.11 without having further issues?

It's a recurring issue then? Why is Lenovo so slow to respond?

I'm personally noticing strong throttling under combined cpu and gpu loads using ubuntu based pop-os and the new bios.

Considering this is such a premium device I expected better and at least a quicker response from Lenovo.

I hope this will get resolved before long.

Wow..this is definitely a journey. It’s a slightly different issue though with cTDP being set lower in Linux than Windows being the original culprit. I don’t know how much of it is being experienced by our Linux users here on the X1C9 though.

Here’s the long thread discussing this issue: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Other-Linux-Discussions/X1C6-T480s-low-cTDP-and-trip-temperature-in-Linux/m-p/4028489?page=1

Hopefully Lenovo took what they learned from there and used it as a starting point for X1C9’s BIOS.

@Nafi3 That is right (so far). Ubuntu 21.04 with Linux 5.11.0-22-generic. Can't seem to get it to shutdown by overheating anymore even if I try.

Hello All,

Just to let you know, and to be transparent, I am locking this thread. The BIOS released on June 26th, which I will mark as the solution, would appear to have resolved the main issue which prompted this discussion however the ongoing extended conversation on some, possibly related or unrelated issues, are going to become lost and more difficult to follow with time and, when resolved, very difficult for others to find. The majority of these appear to be Linux related and would be better continued in the Linux area of Community.

Linux or Windows related:

For continuing or new issues please start a new or join an existing topic on the specific issue for your system and OS. Please do reference, link to, any posts in this topic or even duplicate the post if you feel that necessary and will contribute to that discussion. Search engines will be able to find this and any new topics equally well and, before someone asks, no the content of this topic is not going to be deleted.

The shortcut to the Linux section is forums.lenovo.com/linux

Thanks for understanding.
