Lenovo X1 Extreme extremely slow after waking from sleep

2021-03-01, 21:49 PM

Greetings,

I've been finding my brand new Lenovo X1 Extreme extremely slow and choppy after waking from sleep. Resource consumption is at max 25% of RAM and 15% of CPU. Even after I close everything down to free up all the resources it's still extremely choppy. The only way to fix this is to restart them computer, then it runs fine, until it goes to sleep again. According to my Lenovo updater, everything is up to date. Any advice on what this might be? or if anyone else has experience this? Thanks.

Hello nickbossi,

Greetings

When did the issue start?

Kindly perform a power drain by unplugging the charger, holding down the power button for at least 30 seconds, waiting for a minute or two and reconnecting the charger, then power on the laptop.

If the issue persists, then try clean boot.

The machine starts with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your laptop.

 Hope this helps.

Regards,

@nickbossi

This is one of the issues I'm observing after the latest BIOS update on my T14 Gen 1.

Seems like a good old 0.39Ghz problem. You can find tons of posts on the Web.

Reddit, for example, https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/gp1s3x/cpu_stuck_at_039_ghz_when_ac_plugged/.

As a temp fix, you can just drag your power mode back and forward once after waking: https://prntscr.com/107q93j. It will return the CPU to normal frequencies.

Not the official and the best one, but it may save your time on reboots.

The issue came back. I tried the power drain again and it did not work. I also tried toggling the performance switch back and forth and found no improvement from that either.

I've now found out that if I close the lid on my laptop the problem persists, if I leave the lid open I have no performance issues while plugged into my dock.

My power settings for what happens when I close the lid are all set to "Do Nothing" when plugged in.

Any other thoughts on this issue? Thanks.
