Lenovo X201 Screen Upgrade from WXGA to WXGA+

Hello,

I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my screen, from a standard WXGA 1280x800 model 42T0510:

To the more interesting  WXGA+ 1440x900 model 42T0480 used in Lenovos X201s:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-71896

Just to know if it is possible and also what do I need to perform it, only the screen or also changing the panel...

Thanks

Re: Lenovo X201 Screen Upgrade from WXGA to WXGA+

Yes, but the panel is hard to source, it costs around 500 to 700 dollars to get a new one. I was tempted to do it, but got put off by the cost. I could of get a complete machine for that sort of price.

Re: Lenovo X201 Screen Upgrade from WXGA to WXGA+

So it is possible to update it with only the screen and no additional part?.

I ask this because parts of both screen panel are not the same. (look the links of my first message.

Thank you for your answer  lead_org

Re: Lenovo X201 Screen Upgrade from WXGA to WXGA+

A quick check on eBay (for what it is worth) of some available x201 replacment screens indicates that the (1440*900) 42T0480 has a 40 pin connector, whereas the standard 1280*800 pixel version (42T0510) has a 30 pin connector. I'm quite interested in this upgrade as well so if anyone has managed it successfully, please let us know.

Cheers

It's probably easier swapping the entire lid assembly than the panels themselves. You would still have to mostly disassemble the notebook, but is significantly less risk to warping the screen bezel.
