Lenovo X220 WIN 10 synaptics (cursor) does not work after every restart by Windows itself

2015-08-10, 10:39 AM

Hey there,

I just upgraded to W10, Windows and all Lenovo drivers are up to date. After every restart from updates there is no sign of cursor on the screen. I have tried tochpad and trackpoint as well. When I got into mouse settings, there was written  "Synaptics could not start (Code 10)".

Then I have to manually restart the laptop again and after that it works.

Is anyone else facing those problems? I haven't found any solution yet.

Thanks!

Dear bloody,

Welcome in lenovo community,

Please try to uninstall the synaptics driver from the device manager, then install the below link

https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/n1cgx07w.exe

Thanks to use lenovo community

@SEAlaa

Thanks, but it is still the same...when the installation of new driver finished, system restarted and no cursor on my desktop.

Again, "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

The X220 is not a Lenovo supported system for Win 10 - this doesn't mean that it can't be made to (mostly) work but it does mean it might take a while for the community of X220 users to work out the solutions to issues like yours.

Personally, I'm going to wait a while before trying to upgrade my X220 to Win 10, and let the dust settle a bit.

Yeah, I know it's not really optimized and those problems can be solved, but at first, someone has to point at them so the competent guys can find some solution.

Personally, it's not a laptop that I use daily, I use T420 with W7. That's why I picked up this X220 - just to see if it's worth installing W10 or not so I should wait a couple months more till it's fixed.

This X220 Core-i7-2640M 2.8Ghz /8GB/160GB SSD IPS is just a spare one and it's for sale.

The touchpad and trackpoint have been working normally on my x220 since upgrading to Windows 10.

The Device Manager > Synaptics Pointing Device shows driver version 19.0.16.0 is installed - my understanding is that this is the driver version that currently auto-downloads from Microsoft.

Everything seems to be working as it should and the Mouse Properties control panel has the ThinkPad tab with all of the various TrackPoint settings. You might try uninstalling the Lenovo drivers and then running the driver update through Device Manager > Mice and other Pointing Devices.

Hope this works for you.
