Lenovo X230 Slice battery error and problems

Hi everyone, hope you can help me out with this issue I am having.  I bought a new X230 a couple weeks ago along with the additional 6 cell slice battery.

 

However, I have been having a problem.  When the slice battery runs out the system won't go into sleep; instead when I close the lid on the laptop it turns off completely and when I reboot it all of the programs / app have closed.  It's like the system has a hard power off when that happens.

 

When I reboot, I get this message that says: "Battery 2: There is an error."  Clicking on the replacement options links goes to a 404 page.  (Thanks Lenovo!)  http://screencast.com/t/LLlmqaQ1NJ5k

 

Looking in the Lenovo Solution Center in these cases the secondary battery is listed as "not available".  http://screencast.com/t/PlYdomKZU

 

Anything I should try or should I be getting a new battery from Lenovo?  Is this a common problem?

Hey there!

 

Can you tell us what model (machine type) of X230 do you have and what operating system it is running? The machine type can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the unit. This will help me assit you with the errors you are recieving.

 

Also, have you checked your power manager settings? It is possible to have a PM setting to turn the laptop off when the lid is closed and/or when the slice battery dies.

Hi Catie!  

 

Yes, my power settings are all set to sleep, on AC or on battery, for lid close, power button and sleep button.

I did some research, check out this firmware update for external/slice batterys with your X230.

All Lenovo Products come with a 1 Year Limited Warrenty, if would like to have more indepth troubleshooting, do not hesitate to contact your support center.

I'm having a similar issue.  I have the X230 running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Service Pack 1 with 16 GB of RAM.  If I put the computer to sleep with the slim battery on (and the slim has less than 30% or so power), then the computer asks me to start windows normally.  I have tried to put the computer to sleep without the slim batter on and everything works fine.  Also if the slim battery has more than 30% (this number is a guess)  everything works fine.  Not sure what to do.
