Re: Lenovo X270 noisy fan

2017-08-25, 14:52 PM

All,

We have a beta version of ECFW (a component of BIOS) for you to try.  We appreciate your feedback.

It implements following changes:

1.  lowest fan speed is reduced from 4100rpm to 3100rpm.  I think you will find that 3100rpm is barely noticable.

2.  fan won't turn on at all until 55C, then it will run at 3100rpm until 65C.

3.  above 65C, fan runs at 4500rpm until CPU cools to 50C

4.  there are additional faster fan speeds for 75C and higher.

To install this beta version of ECFW:

A.  download and unzip:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/xojsxz36g2fn5va/X270_trial_ECFW_8.zip?dl=0

B.  plug into AC power

C.  from the unzipped folder, run WINUPTP.exe

D.  follow on-screen prompts

Re: Lenovo X270 noisy fan

Hi Lenovo

I have teste a bit on the new BIOS update.

The first problem i have, is that when i run on battery my battery is drained wery fast i think i have 1/2 - 1/3 of my battery power left.

I still have a lot of noice from the fan and somehow i think that it have been a bit worse than before.

But i will get back later this week with a bit more test comments.

UPdated: When i work at my office, the fan is still on all the time, but it is a bit less noicy. There is a lot of noice from it but it is less than before (but a lot more than from my x260 / x250)

Regards

Thank you for your feedback.  If your battery is draining quickly, and fan is running all the time, it makes me think your system never idles because too much CPU activity in the background.  Please check task manager, details view, and sort by CPU utilization to find out what processes are always using CPU.

Re: Lenovo X270 noisy fan

Hi Lenovo,

I may going to buy a X270 this weekend, but for heat and noisy fan issue is it may due to the hard drive and processor?

1. use the ssd but not the normal hardisk --> will reduce the heat and slow down the fan right?

2. choose I7 but not I5 --> will reduce the heat and slow down the fan also ?

or just because the windows 10 background setting issue?

(may refer to the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej0L8tGCSxg ) how to speed up your windows 10 performance

Re: Lenovo X270 noisy fan

I am also suffering from a loud fan noise in my X270. And the fan never stops working. But I have the additional problem that my laptop is frequently too warm underneath, so that I can not set it on my lap. It is almost too warm to touch. I checked the board temperature using the CPUID HWMonitor app and apparently my problem might be something else entirely as the temperature regularly fluctuates between 50 and 90 degrees Celcius. Even when I have just a single Chrome Tab open and no other applications are running in the background, the fan suddenly starts running as the laptop gets hotter.

I had the same problem since March... They replaced the fan and system board, still fan noise persisted. They collected and took it factory for repair... After two weeks, they sent me a new machine, it works great, no more fan noise.... I am happpppy!

That's why buying a 2,000 euro machine is worth every cent... I almost lost faith in Lenovo but now, I am down for whatever with Lenovo!

Hi FNyairo,

How did you manage to get it replaced? I work for a big multinational company. Our helpdesk hasn't been helpful enough so far to solve this problem, thus it won't be an easy ride I guess.

Cheers,

Ákos
