Re: Lenovo X270 noisy fan

2017-09-08, 15:31 PM

Hi All,

I have just got my new laptop x270, I have been using it since 2 days but my ears are sick already. This fan noise is really killing me, noisy metallic sound, I hardly work. I hope we will have the resolution shortly or I will drop this to the trash.

Did anybody find the solution?

Hi Someotherguy

Any news on this one? Was the Bios you published out of Beta ? I should say that the bios proposed makes the laptops less noissy . The fan it is there, but it is more acceptable.

@thread

:PUSH:

With the new development with the TPM chip of Infineon and the flaw connected to it i am asking myself how
valuable this testing is. Even if we get into the situation of a proper implementation of this feature in the actual
BIOS, will it be a lasting feature? Or will it be patched out with the next BIOS update again?

ATM, i am in a miserable position. Security vs convenience is the question here.

I will have to go with security in this case, although that means I will have to stick to the noisy fan…

Re: Lenovo X270 noisy fan

2017-10-25, 6:10 AM

Dear,

I am an IT guy at a MNC and I ordered three X270 in Auguest from a Lenovo re-tailer.

after I received them from the vendor, I noticed that I could hear loud fan noise that was unusual compared to x250, 260 and even x270 that I purchased a few month ago while I was configuring outlook,. The 3 laptops have been making almost the same level of noise while it's running just windows.

I did not install anything and I ordered them with win 10 pro and outlook was installed as default. Users keep complaining about it cause they used to use x250 but it didn't make the noise like this. the bios update did not make a difference so I couldn't help them so far.

Today, I received a X270 that I ordered a few weeks ago from a different vendor and it's definitely making fan noise but it's a bit quieter than the above 3 laptops.

I searched about this issue in this forum and found nothing helpful so I am going to call Lenovo Service Center to send an engineer to compare the fan noise.

If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know. I will also keep posted.

Re: Lenovo X270 noisy fan

Over one month since the push and nothing happened.

Here for comparing reasons my idling machine...

Yes, it is inside a docking station, however it never drops below 50°C?

I even installed the BIOS, no real improvement.

When will we see results here? Will the fixes from the BIOS be implemented in the normal BIOS, so it is available on a regular schedule and via the normal update methods?

Trying to not lose my faith,

BR Dan

Hi there,

For your information I updated Bios to 1.24 and in the power settings I configured the System cooling policy to passsive on battery and plugged in, and limited the max power processor rate to 90% on battery and plugged in. That change really kept all my x270 quite silent. I do understand we are limiting the processing power, but I rather that than users complaing about having a noisy laptop.

Cheers
