Lenovo carbon x1 5th gen usb-c both ports not working.

2021-02-21, 16:53 PM

Hello,

I have an issue with my Lenovo x1 carbon 5th gen, both USB-C ports not working.

My question is:

1. I would like to update the firmware  of the Thunderbolt  controller according to this  Lenovo support page  https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/ht508988/?clickid=1qLzLoX-jxyJTlPwUx0Mo3cTUknW6OTPNxaGwc0&irgwc=1&PID=221109&acid=ww%3Aaffiliate%3Abv0as6

but to do that Laptop needs to be connected to AC power to update the firmware. Ac charger is fine but  USB-C ports are not working so how can I charge or even perform the firmware update when the AC power is essential.

2. There is any chance to update the Thunderbolt firmware without AC power charger connected?

Many thanks for any advice,

Mario

Hello maniut833,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

I suggest that you try to load BIOS default settings, make sure to save before exit.
Check if the machine will charge via AC adapter.
If not, we do not suggest to mod the BIOS so it may be best to check technical support first for recommended action plan.
