How can I obtain a replacement "P" key for my X1 Carbon (3rd Gen) laptop?

2015-05-08, 23:35 PM

It's still under waranty.

I have not used it much but the P key keeps falling off. Seems like one of the plastic parts on the bottom is a bit bent.

Any idea how to get a replacement?

You can't...it needs an entirely new keyboard, sadly.  Individual keys can't be replaced.

There is a thread on keys falling off of the 3rd Gen. (2015) X1 Carbon.  Had it happen to me as well.

Hi nimmylebby,

If it is within 21 days of purchase, you can call 1-800-426-7378 and they will give you the option of returning yours and getting a brand new laptop to replace it versus getting the keyboard repaired.

Also, Amy Tupper (forum username Amy_lenovo) is investigating this issue so she may be able to help you if you reach out to her directly.

Hope this helps,

NIna

The FRU part list for X1C3 shows two keyboard manufacturers, CHY (Chicony) and LTN (LiteOn). It's possible that the issue only affects one of them. Does anyone know how to identify which is installed?

Re: Letter P key fell out of my ThinkPad Carbon X1 3G 2015 keyboard

Its 2015 and with all the computer and technology development we are here on Lenovo community forum complaining about non-usable keyboard and touchpad.

Serious question.. don't they have management somewhere at Lenovo? Don't they care about the sales and their consumers? Or are they just sure they'll make profits off government contracts (that they will get one way or another thourhg under the table gifts and commissions) and screw the customers like us?

This is reallly REALLY bad. We are complaining about the basics... the pure basics... things that were sorted out some 20 years ago... but here lenovo are doing all wrong...!! I'm so pissed now.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm hoping they make it right.

Hi nimmylebby, Did you PM Amy?

I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!
