Mom dropped my X41 ThinkPad IBM/Lenovo laptop now the wireless icon has disappeared.

2012-02-27, 1:46 AM

As said above, mom dropped it on the floor, since then, I can't activate the wireless and I get the error message saying that Lenovo Wireless adapters (802.11. WAN or Bluetooth) are not installed on this system. Now, I have taken the easy to remove panel off and everything looked fine, but then again I don't exactly know where to find the wireless card at and I've installed various Lenovo drivers and software downloads but none have worked, I've also restarted numerous time and I still get NO wireless. Please help?

Wireless card should be under the panel. You should try to re-seat it.

Does the X41 have a wireless enable/disable toggle switch? Maybe that's damaged, or it could be the motherboard or the wireless card itself...

The toggle for wireless is Fn+F5, there's no other way to turn it on or off.

Cheapest solution for you right now is probably a wireless PC card, unless you want to find a used replacement for your wireless card. I'm not sure if IBM whitelisted cards back in the day or not. If not, you could get any Mini-PCI wireless card, if not, you'll have to stick to the exact part number (FRU) of the card that's in your machine now.
