My AC Adapter Gets Really Hot

2011-08-03, 22:10 PM

I have googled this problem, but cannot find a solution. I'd appreciate your suggestions and experiences.

I'm using a pretty new X201i but while charging the AC adapter gets really hot. I can still hold it, but only barely. The adapter is 65W 20V Rev L. I do not remember that the adapter to my previous computer, an X61, ever got this hot (the computer, however, is another matter). So what is wrong? Is the adapter malfunctioning? It still charges the battery, both while the computer is and isn't in use. There's no problem with the functionality, but it gets hot.

My wife has one of those normal-sized Lenovo laptops, and her adapter does not get hot.

Thanks!

do you have warranty still?

also do you cover the adapter with anything and what is the ambient temperature of your room?

Yes, I still have warranty. And I do of course not cover the adapter with anything. The room is maybe 76 or 77 degrees.

then this most likely to be defective part, call up warranty and they should able to send you out a new one.
