I hope your dream comes true, but I doubt it in the short term :smileysad:

FYI, there is a reason for the Fn key being where it is :smileysurprised: it is directly - diagonally opposite the think light button, so as you can find it in the dark.

i actually oppose the dvi since it would add unnecessary bulk. i would prefer seeing display port seeing as it is become a standard, is all digital, and appropriate adapters can be found.

there will be one day when a 12 inch x will drive a 30 inch lcd, one day.

I second the motion for a BIOS feature to swap the FN and left CTRL keys!

While finding the FN key in the dark is great and all (or whatever the reason for it being there is), accidentally missing the left CTRL key about 300 times a day is a tremendously larger nuisance. My pinky missed the left CTRL key 3 times while typing this post. :smileysad:

I expect it was just serendipity that the Fn key was in the right place to work conveniently with the ThinkLight.  It's been on the lower corner since the 75x series (and possibly before although I don't have one of those here in front of me), and the ThinkLight is a relatively new feature.

It probably had more to do with maintaining consistency with the 3270 layout that everyone and their dog was used to at the time the ThinkPads were introduced.  Putting it between the Cntl and Alt keys would have been awkward for those users.

Check out figure 2.2 in chapter 2 at TN3270 Terminal Emulation  Look familiar?

About Fn & Ctrl key,

Also wondering WHY this isn't optional? While searching on the Net for a solution I found that there is a movement of users that are against it... Doesn't Lenovo realise that there are customers that are avoiding Thinkpads just for this reason? or are they ignoring the end-user and focuses on corporate management that makes the laptop purchase deals...

As a software developer you use the "ctrl" key constantly for various shortcuts, and while not always working on the "laptop" keyboard you can't get used to one setup, making it mentally stressful each time switching keyboards...

So my request to Lenovo, PLEASE make a BIOS upgrade and make an end of the IBM keyboard pride era
