New Intel Driver Dissabled Wifi...

2016-01-23, 19:35 PM

The optional update below killed my WiFi on X1 i7 Laptop 20BS. Windows 10  - (My other PC was fine and still able to see Wifi with no change)

I had to uninstall the Intel program installed today in Control Panel - Unintall Programs -  ..and reboot to fix the issue.

Hi,

I ran system update and got 18.32.0.5 and first it was disabled. I went to device manager and enabled it. After that wifi itself has been working OK but system locks up occasionally (only power off resets the situation).

Will try to uninstall like you did to see if lock ups stop.

[edit] now I am at 17.13.11.5 so let's see how it changes the freezing

[edit2] >24h and no lockups. I'd say it's squashed for the time being.

Well that's odd since when I installed windows 10 from recovery USB by Lenovo it had Lenovo companion instead that was like an app where you did driver updates so yeah

Any solution to the problems with the WiFi card and new driver?

My performance on Public WiFi is terrible...cant connect, so looking for new driver / fix.

I'm not sure, but it seems this post may be related...

Good day.

Public WiFi, like coffee shops etc, can be hit or miss with newer AC-wireless cards as I doubt many have upgraded their routers. I saw this with my 20BT running an earlier version of the driver.

What has worked for me, in these environments, is setting the Wireless Mode as below:

You might give it a try for comparison.

Regards.

(For reference, I'm currently running the most recent driver version, and my X1C3 is at Win8.1Pro)

Thanks Sarbin for suggestion, unfortunately I tried that with no success.  I have seen this at coffee shops.

The main problem connection I had was at a very new hotel in Asia so I think they were up to date technology wise.

It actually worked fine on an older router at a associates home.  I mostly use from home WiFi so don't have many opportunities to test. I'm on Win 10 :/

thanks anyway!
