We are getting our new Lenovo X230 soon. Unfortunately it has Windows 7 Home Edition. If we have a DVD with Windows 7 professional, how hard would it be to upgrade? Should we reformat the whole drive?

You can do two things:
1. Go to Windows Anytime Upgrade and purchase the Pro feature. This is the easiest way to upgrade, but it costs a small amount to do this.
2. Try booting from the Windows 7 DVD and see if it will let you start it and install the upgrade. You will need the license key from the Windows 7 DVD to do this.

Thanks for the quick reply. We did not know about the Anytime Upgrade, so that is helpful.
So you are saying the installation disk may have the ability to upgrade if it sees there is an installation already there?

It might work, but you will need to use the key of the upgrading disc, so it will use that license. I have not done this, but I did see it in another forum.
Anytime Upgrade is much easier, so it may be worth it in the end. That is what I would do.
