No Keyboard BackLight on X230 Sold in Singapore?

I bought a Thinkpad X230 a couple of days ago and realised that there is no keyboard backlight. A quick call to the sales team and customer service confirmed that all X230 sold in Singapore only has the Thinklight but no Keyboard backlight.

How can this be given that all the websites and reviews tout the X230 as having a keyboard backlight?

Different countries have different configuration. I suspect that the reviews you are referencing don't come from Singapore.

Can I buy a backlit keyboard and change it myself?

Sure. Check eBay to see if you find one that fits your keyboard configuration.

Right now the backlit version of the kb sells for 100 dollars+ on ebay. Not worth it at this price point.
