Lenovo Solution Center reports the following hardware problem on my new X1 Carbon (4th Gen).
I've also tried the Lenovo Diagnostics tool for PCI express, as indicated in the forums, which reports the same error.
Anybody an idea how serious this is?

The version of Lenovo Solution Center is 3.2.004
The version of Lenovo Diagnostics is 4.2.0
The version of Windows is Windows 10 Pro
The error had disappeared yesterday, but is back today

I think you are experiencing a known problem where the diags will never fail shortly after rebooting, but might fail sometime later. This is just a diags bug, not a real hardware problem.
Lenovo Solution Center 3.2.004 should have the fix for this problem, so can you confirm whether you are still seeing the failure on this version, and provide a screenshot of it?
The Lenovo Diagnostics that you are using definitely has this bug, so can you please get the latest version here?

Thanks for your reply. I couldn't reproduce the problem yesterday, today it is back though.
Even with the newer version of the diagnostics tool you pointed me to.
There does not appear to be any functional problem at all so far.
The problem has never reproduced using the Diagnostics utility in the BIOS (pressing F10 at boot time)

Sorry for my mix-up, it turns out the fix for this issue is NOT in the versions I told you to try.
The fix is in the next version which is not released yet.
If you want to try the new version before it is released, I'm happy to provide it to you. Just let me know.
Again, sorry for this trouble.

Diags 4.10.0 (not released yet, not signed by Lenovo yet):
The failure as seen on current diags version 4.7.0:
The passing result as seen on 4.10.0 (run immediately after observing the failure above):
