Problem with fingerprint reader / software

2009-01-16, 17:30 PM

I'm facing an issue with the fingerprint reader. Sometimes, the fingerprint reader works fine, and I'm able to log into the system. Other times, I constantly get the red 'X' sign indicating that my fingerprint was not identified. And in some cases, I get a message saying that the fingerprint system is not available.

I don't think there's an issue with the quality of my fingerprints, because when I start the 'Lenovo FingerPrint Software' it always allows me to get past the 'Authenticate' page using my fingerprint.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the details of the software I have installed on my machine:

- Lenovo Fingerprint Software: version 3.2.0.275.

- Windows XP, SP3.

It's an X301 laptop, by the way.

Roy,

With my X301 I found that it got buggy after upgrading the Lenovo fingerprint driver to 2.0.  In order to fix, I had to go into add/remove programs and remove both the new and old fingerprint drivers.  Then you can reload the original driver from your hard drive or Lenovo's web site for the X301.  Stick to the original driver and you should not have this problem.  If in the future during an update you are prompted to upgrade the driver to 2.0 don't do it.

Thanks Mark.

The only related item I have in "Add or Remove Programs" is "Lenovo Fingerprint Software", version 3.2.0.275. In the Device Manager, I have AuthenTec AES2810 under "Personal identification devices". The version of the driver is 8.1.2.37 (dated 10/2/2008).

Any ideas?

Thanks again.

The only driver that works properly with my x301 is the one included with the machine.  Try removing the "Lenovo Fingerprint Software" and reboot.

Log in manually.

Reload the original driver that came with your machine. C:/Drivers/WIN/FPSA/Setup32

If you get lucky and this fixes the problem remember not to upgrade the fingerprint software when prompted to in the future.  Or you could try it out because now you know how to revert back to the original application.

Should this not fix, I suggest you call support for their thoughts.
