[Product request] High performance Ryzen ThinkPads

2020-10-16, 22:40 PM

Hi Lenovo Team,

Could you please consider the following products for 2021 in order to maintain the ThinkPad brand image accociated with state of the art progressive tech, high performance and high build quality?

ThinkPad X1 Extreme, 2021

  • - CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS (35Watt, essential)*
  • - bezels of the Dell XPS 15 9500 with webcam shutter
  • - improved cooling system
  • - stricter quality assurance (less performance variation)
  • - larger allow keys with page up/down

ThinkPad T15p, 2021

  • - CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS (35Watt, essential)
  • - GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q, 6GB**
  • - bezels of the Dell XPS 15 9500 with webcam shutter
  • - option of ThinkPad keyboard without numpad***
  • - larger arrow keys with page up/down
  • - fan exhausts on the back and left of the machine (like X1 Extreme); never on the right side
  • - blocky design to allow for larger battery and cooling like Asus G14, Razer Blade 15 or MacBook white****

ThinkPad X13, 2021

  • - bezels of the Dell XPS 13 with webcam shutter
  • - wider keyboard base so that no keys are squished (as it is currently, the case with German öüß)
  • - fan exhaust never on the right side

Legion 5, 2021

  • - CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5800H (45Watt)
  • - GPU: Nvidia GTX 3060 Ti Max-Q, 6GB
  • - bezels of the Dell XPS 15 9500 with webcam shutter
  • - option of ThinkPad keyboard without numpad and page up/down***
  • The Legion keys are very mushy compared to ThinkPads
  • - removal of 2.5" drive bay reppaced either with better cooling or a larger battery
  • - different plastic surface that does not get sticky after 12 months of heavy use like a rubberised Logitech mouse
  • - USB C charging with built-in DisplayPort 1.4
  •

* 35W processors make more sense as the now 3 year old X1 Extreme design does not sufficiently cool 45W Intel processors such as i7-8750H, i7-9750H, i7-10750H incl. the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H.

** The T15g's chassis is thick enough to fit a more sophisticated cooling system. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 fit a RTX 2060 Max-Q in a tiny 14" chassis, so a GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q should not be a challenge.

*** Numpad-less laptops allow faster, more ergonomic typing. The Legion 5 keys are squished.

**** There is no need for the illusion of a thin laptop that looks like a wedge. Better to make all chassis areas the same thickness for better cooling and battery.
