Quality control for Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th gen all over the place. The hinges?

2019-11-03, 12:16 PM

I have ordered the X1 Carbon 7th generation model 3 times so far, exactly like in this article:

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/lenovo-laptop-quality-control-issues,37510.html

The first time: the touchpad coating was defective.

The second time: a mushy keyboard with the letter keys giving out different sounds.

The third time (and I still have this unit): The keyboard is back to normal, but the touchpad now gives out sounds like in the cheapest junk out there. The screen hinges are so stiff that there is no way of opening the laptop with one hand, whereas in the second unit I ordered it was possible.

My question is if the owners of this model are able to open their laptops with one hand? I now know this is possible in some units but I am wondering if it was just luck the last time or if this should be a standard feature?

PS I'm just desperate to have an ok quality laptop on which I can instal linux, that's why I have been reordering it, but frankly I think at this price point it's a joke.

Shame on you Lenovo!
