Question about X61s

2008-03-11, 5:09 AM
I have a few question regarding the X61s:

1) On Lenovo Canada's website, there isn't an option for the ultralight screen for the X61s. Is the default selection the ultralight screen?

2) When the X61 replacement arrives, will the the X61s get even cheaper? OR will the replacment be about the same price as the current price for the X61? What happened when the X61 replaced the X60?

3) I can get the X61 with 1.8 Ghz CPU, 100 GB 7200 rpm HD, etc.. for about $1180 CDN before taxes. Is this the cheapest the X61s has been on sale for? or can it get lower then this?

4) Does anyone know if the Penryn chip will be an option for the X61 anytime soon? And if it does arrive, will the price increase?

Thanks.

The X300 is the next model after the X61.

No it isn't.

As for Penryn, models with T8100 and T8300 processors are available now.

The Penryn is NOT available for the X series laptop yet. At least not in Canada or the US.

Can anyone confirm whether the X61s from Lenovo Canada has the ultralight screen? Is this the default TFT screen?

perhaps not on the website but you should be able to call 866-96-THINK to place your order.   according to the tabook there are four X61 configs available with penryn; 7673-H6U & 7675-H7U (T8100) and 7673-J5U & 7675-K2U (T8300).

Interesting...I didn't know you can do that. Can I order that way in Canada and using EPP?

Thanks Bloo,

I appreciate the clarification.

Could you please explain how the X300 and T500 lines will fit into the grand scheme of things?

I had assumed that the X61 and T61 lines were history.

Thanks!

I'd love to.

Unfortunately, at this point there's just too much that's still confidential.  I know that sounds like a horrific cop out answer, and I apologize for that; but I really can't give you any detail.  What I can say, though, is that the X300 is not designed to replace the X6x line, and we have some really cool stuff in plan (in my opinion... see disclaimer in sig :smileywink: )

Hi Bloo,

I understand your position with regards to confidentiality with the forthcoming laptops but can you at least advise me on whether I should wait for the new models? I can wait a few months to purchase a laptop, however, the prices appears to be pretty good right now (I can purchase a Merom 2.2 Ghz X61 in Canada for about $1100 + tax right now). From your experience with the transition from X60 to X61, can you predict whether the prices on the X61 will continue to drop or will the new models be considerably more expensive than the current price for the X61?

The bottom line, should I wait?

Thanks.

AFAIK - 3=13,3" and 5=15,4". widescreens. Therefore at least 2.5 - 3 lbs difference. Ts will be larger/fatter due to cooling for more powerfull cpus and gpus. (just my interpretation)
