Re: x1 carbon wireless problem

Hi Ezekial,

We are following a good path.

Those things you have not done go ahead and try those to se if they work.

People in the community have tried changing from WPA2 to EAP; some have hanged their wireless mode from default to another setting; others have moved from 2.4ghz to 5ghz.

If you have all the Intel & Lenovo drivers updated you 'should' be good as far as software.

Hopefully that firmware update will prove to be the most helpful.

I had a similar issue. The problem was solved after upgrading the BIOS firmware and installing the Centrino Advanced-N 6205 driver version 15.5.6.48.

I hope this might help.

Re: x1 carbon wireless problem

I have now:

  • Updated firmware/mgmt platform for Ubiquiti
  • Switched to N only on AP
  • Ran BIOS update for Jan 18th for Lenovo X1 Touch
  • Ran Lenovo updater to install a few updates, including Intel v15.5.0

Results

  • BIOS success
  • Really frustrated by the the BIOS updater.  Screen at end says the update will happen when the PC is rebooted. There is an OK button, but when clicked it REBOOTS the PC with NO warning. Not cool!!!
  • Wireless update "installed successfully", then on reboot my wireless card was disabled.  I had to re-enable from device manager.
  • I then verified driver version and it is still the newer 15.5.7 that was already installed so the install was actually not successful
  • Wireless still takes 25 seconds to be connected after opening the screen and logging in.  Another 5 seconds to have actual communication (ping 4.2.2.2 as example).
  • My wife's Lenovo Yogapad on the other hand, is pretty much instant on.

Next up, I suppose I'll try a force downgrade of the Intel wireless driver.

Maybe play some more with my accesspoint.  Maybe try another access point to compare.

Has there been any updates? I've had all the same issues everyone mentions on my new X1 carbon touch and tried the troubleshooting methods people have posted to no avail. Does anyone have a normal functioning model? Has anyone successfully fixed their computer? Lenovo sent me a box to send my computer to be fixed but I'm hesitant as it might not solve anything. Appreciate any updates!

Ezekial,

Did downgrading the driver work for you?

How are your security settings working out?

Is it still taking a minute to connect?

What router are you using?

Hi Oregonskater,

What is your machine type and model #?

What WLAN card and router are you using?
And, do any other devices connect to the network?

Re: x1 carbon wireless problem

2013-02-20, 19:41 PM

I'm running an X1 Carbon Touch on Windows 8, Type 3443.

My issue is that by random, my computer will stop picking up wifi signal.  I have it now that it can still see the router, but it will not connect while my netbook, smartphone, ipad and the rest of my family's computers can still register the internet just fine.  I have now tried this at two different locations.  I have to restart the computer to get the wifi to pick up again or switch off and on airplane mode.  Airplane mode takes about 30 seconds to lose the disconnect.

The solutions I have tried thus far, which have failed:

-Changing the wireless setting so that power management cannot shut it down to conserve power

-Updating the wireless driver to the latest intel driver from Intel's website

-Complete reset of the computer and subsequent update of all the drivers and windows update and slowly adding programs back to the computer

The last one got me four hours of continuous connection with no issues.  But after installing the following programs, I have encountered issues again:

Pidgin

Picasa

Python

Dropbox

Google Drive

Skydrive

Since then in the course of an hour (part of it I left to test by going for a run) I have had the net drop twice (Once during this post which was about 10 mins since I restarted the computer).

The router that I am currently on is a D-link DI-524.

Please let me know if I should send it in the box Lenovo just sent out to me.  I'm actually quite sad that this computer is having this issue, its the first laptop I have bought in 4 years.

Hi Oregonskater,

Just to confirm...

" I have it now that it can still see the router, but it will not connect while my netbook, smartphone, ipad and the rest of my family's computers can still register the internet just fine."

Do you mean that you can see the router but can't connect and everyone else can see the router and connect?

-or-

Do you mean that you can see the router, can't connect at the same time everyone else is connected, but can connect when no one else is connected?

No, what is happening is that periodically my WiFi just drops the ability to connect. I have tested if this is the routers problem but every other device connects fine both when the x1 is connected and when it is not connected. The issue is that the x1 just drops the WiFi randomly and I have to reset the adaptor to get it to pick up WiFi again. This can happen every 10 min to several hours between incidents.
