Recovery USB Flash

2021-07-22, 14:01 PM

Hi everyone,

I've created the recovery USB flash drive of my Thinkpad X13 AMD.

Before installing Linux on my SSD (I will also change the partition table), I would like to know if the recovery procedure via USB will allow me to restore the SSD at factory design even if I delete the original partition table.

Thanks

Hello svituz,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

If the configured partition is changed, you won't be able to reinstall Windows using the recovery USB.

Hope this answers your query.

Take care.

Recovery USB Flash

I have to disagree with what Lorenzo said regarding this issue. I have a ThinkCentre M75q-1 Tiny that I decided to run Linux on for a while. When installing Linux, I did delete the original partition table, leaving no trace of Windows 10 on the system. At a later date, I decided to put Windows back on the computer and used a recovery USB. I obtained the factory image direct from Lenovo, created the bootable USB drive myself, and everything went just fine. Even later, I replaced the factory hard drive with a 128GB NVMe SSD and a 500GB SATA SSD. Reinstalling Windows using the recovery USB was mostly the same, but with the addition of having to select what drive I wanted the OS to reside on.

Recovery USB Flash

Thanks, yotusba_kowa, that's what I was hoping. I had already erased everything before your answer and knowing this makes me less worried :). BTW, just I've also backed up the original partition table with sfdisk and dd the 3 system partition I've found, just in case. Thanks again for your answer, svituz

Hello,

I do not have a ThinkPad X13 AMD myself, but with previous models of ThinkPad I have been able to use the USB recovery media created using Lenovo's Digital Download Recovery Service (DDRS) to install the original factory preload to a new, blank (never partitioned or formatted) drive.
