Perhaps it is something with the BIOS and firmware?

I have the exact same problem on my X1 Carbon 5th Gen.  When I attach my iPhone 6s to the right side USB, it (the laptop) goes into a spasm of device attached, device not attached, device attached, device not attached... Glad i am not alone in this problem.

Given the multiple users affected, and replacing the unit had no effect, this is clearly some sort of deeper problem, perhaps the BIOS or firmware of the part.

@Rydeen - any update from the Lenovo end on this? Has the development team been able to replicate the issue? Any solution forthcoming?

Just to pile on here, I'm also seeing the same issue with phones and my right side USB port.

Re: Right-side USB problem with mobile phones on X1 Carbon 5th gen

Hi all,

I did a little testing with mine.  My Galaxy S5 exhibited the same behavior that you all are having. Attached, not attached constantly. This is on the right side USB port, the left side port works fine.

I attached a USB hub to the right side and plugged my phone into it and it stayed attached, I was able to view the files on the phone and the SD card.  It stayed connected through various shutdowns and reboots connected through the hub.  This is an unpowered USB 2.0 hub.

I then shut down the machine and removed the hub and connected the phone, booted up the machine and the phone connected and stayed connected.  The X1 stayed connected to the phone through various disconnects, reboots. and shutdowns.  Unplugging the phone under power and plugging it back in under power kept the X1 and the phone connected.

So far, it seems to be working without the hub.  If anybody can try this and post back the results, it might help.

FYI, I have always on turned off, I haven't tested it with the USB always on.

Regards,

Dave

I'll join in with everyone else experiencing this issue. It started happening in the last few weeks, so I suspect its due to an update. When I connect my iphone 6S to the right side USB is constant connect-disconnect-connect-disconnect cycle with the chimes and notifications. It's extremely annoying. I thought it was the cable, or phone, so I have tired various cables, phones and now here on the forum I see many people are experiencing it. Sigh.

As it appears to be a software/firmware issue broken by an update, Lenovo, please sort this out!!I have been very disappointed regarding the touchpad issue which still exists, and now this makes me realise thinkpads are not what they used to be.
