X1 Carbon Gen 9: change / replace SSD

2021-07-26, 18:32 PM

Looking to change the SSD on my X1 Carbon Intel Gen9 once I receive it, and would appreciate any tips/recommendation about:

1) Brand or Type of SSD best suited for the X1C 20XW in terms of maximum capacity (TB), durability (TBW), heat performance, single or double sided

2) What about SkHynix Gold P31 (720TBW)?

Although the OEM SSD is a SkHynix P611 OPAL 2.0, the SkHynix P31 says "may not be compatible with BIOS that supports OPAL" (go figure...)

does that mean it wont work, or would work but without OPAL?

3) On another X1C, the bottom cover remained stuck in one place (middle of the hinge-side edge) and wouldn't open. I suppose a clip there was too tight...

Anyone else encountered such problem? Or first hand tip on how to open it without breaking the cover or the presumed clip?

Thanks!

It was no trouble opening the X1C9's case, especially since Lenovo provides maintenance videos and Hardware Maintenance Manuals showing how it's done :-). There are videos for almost all recent Lenovo machines.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Wow indeed! Chatted with at least 6 different customer support agents (online chat), I wonder why none of them told me about these videos! only the pdf manual... but now you did, thanks! I guess that one particular X1C that wouldnt open must've had a faulty clip
