Hi all, I picked up a X220i from craigslist and the previoous owner swapped the HDD for an 256 Gb SSD, but when i opened the slot, i noticed the SSD was installed very loosely and he used napkins and paper to keep it in place.
I guess I need to get a holder or carriage of some sort to make sure the SSD is properly installed. I saw some 1.8 to 2.5 HDD to SSD cartridge on line, but I don't know if its the right thing. Can anyone let me know what I need to get in order to make sure the SSD is properly housed in the computer. I know its loose becasue I occasionally get errors when I boot up because the thing is stabilized correctly.
Thanks in advance for your expertise and help.

The X220i drive bay holds a 2.5" wide, 7mm high drive. Are you saying that the SSD in your unit is only 1.8" wide?
The drive is intended to be screwed onto a metal caddy, then held by two rubber rails that act as shock absorbers. That assemby is then inserted into the drive bay. If you're missing the caddy or rubber rails you can buy them inexpensively on eBay.
You can find more information about this, including step-by-step instructions and diagrams in the Users Guide for your system starting at page 125.

Try the following. Make sure the specs are for a 2.5" 7mm thick drive.

The mounting screws for both HDDs and SSDs are the same size and in the same location to make it easy to upgrade from one to the other. So a HDD caddy/rails will work just fine with an SSD.

I have a HDD caddy, I am curious if there is a how to somewhere for reference.
Have you looked in the User Guide I linked to above?
