SSD firmware update issue on X1 Extreme

Hi,

I am experiencing an issue with SSD FW update released on Mar 14, 2019 for X1 Extreme.

The program returns one of the following 2 errors.

1) Error pops up immediately after drive selected for update. Error code is RC = 0x2.

2) Error pos up after OS reboot. "software condition is not ready to update due to some reason". Last line in the cmd window  is "Get Storage information".

I am running Windows 10 v1809.

Please advice. Thank you.

Sorry for this trouble.  Can you please post a screenshot of the tool running on your PC, like this one?

Thanks for the information, but it's not what I asked for.

This?

I am sure I checked the right drive before clicking on update. Capture.PNG

Re: SSD firmware update issue on X1 Extreme

Thanks.  The failure might have something to do with the other drive just being in the system (I know that you didn't select it).  Is it possible to temporarily remove that drive and try again?  If not, I'll ask our SSD team if they can try to recreate the similar situation.  But we probably don't have any non-OEM drives like that Samsung 970.

Re: SSD firmware update issue on X1 Extreme

I just remembered something about the firmware update tool.  It will only work if you are using the Microsoft native NVMe driver.  If you installed the Samsung NVMe driver instead, it won't work.  Can you look in Device Manager -> Storage Controllers to see what NVMe driver you have installed?  It should be "Standard NVM Express Controller" and not Samsung.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: SSD firmware update issue on X1 Extreme

Rolling back driver worked!

Thank you a lot!

BTW I am also having issue updating lastest Intel ME driver on the laptop (X1e 20MF). The MEinfo tool came with the updater says ME is disabled (Error 198).

I then checked bios and have only seem options related to AMT (enabled). BIOS info page has ME FW version displayed (a slightly older version but sill v12). But I still cannot update the FW regardlessly.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks again!

What is the ME firmware version as shown in BIOS Setup?
