Re: SSD firmware update issue on X1 Extreme

currently 12.0.22.1310. ME software is up-to-date and can be reinstalled without any issue.

But  FwUpdate.exe keeps saying "Management engine interface is not installed".  MEUpdate.CMD reports error 63 (Unknown or unsupported hardware platform).

Thank you!

I believe you're seeing the issue that is discussed here:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P52-4K-reboot-three-times-forever-after-...

Can you try the solution in that thread?  It worked for most people, but not everyone.

Can you confirm what version of ME firmware is shown in BIOS setup now?

Re: SSD firmware update issue on X1 Extreme

After running the reset, and having it finished and restarted. I could install 12.0.24.1314 without issue. Confirmed in bios.

Great, now you should be able to install future ME firmware updates normally, and without any failure.

I just remembered something about the firmware update tool.  It will only work if you are using the Microsoft native NVMe driver.  If you installed the Samsung NVMe driver instead, it won't work.  Can you look in Device Manager -> Storage Controllers to see what NVMe driver you have installed?  It should be "Standard NVM Express Controller" and not Samsung.

the solution with the correct (standard) drivers helped me out. but be very careful if you need to rollback.

in my case there was no option to rollback to standard windows drivers, so i uninstalled the device (including deleting drivers). so i hoped during the next boot windows will automaticly use standard drivers for the device.

but i got an error in booting due to an "inaccessible boot device". just an automatic windows repair with a save boot (press F8 during) helped me to get windows back working properly.
