Screen flips between two color temperatures seemingly randomly after opening cover

2020-01-20, 0:10 AM

I have a brand new X1 gen 2 extreme with the OLED display. When I open the laptop cover to resume from sleep, I've had occasiones where the display sometime will flip itself between two color temperatures at relatively random rate. For example, when I leave everything alone, the screen will be white. When I move the mouse, the entire screen shifts color temperature to be colder (seemingly it is compute related). But it's not mouse related since it will flip randomly between the two discrete color temps without my doing anything as well.

Fixes: A reboot fixes it. Closing the lid and re-opening the lid fixes it as well.

However, when I am "unlucky" and open the lid, the problem happens and it will remain that way until I close the lid and get lucky when I open the lid.

I don't have eyecare mode enabled. I do have Lenovo Vantage installed and used it to adjust the main color temperature.

Bottom line: it is fine normally, but gets into this wierd flipping between color temp state when I open the lid to resume from sleep.

i would like to fix the root cause here as it is very annoying when it happens. I have all the latest Windows version and driver updates installed.

Hi stevekirsch! Just to make sure that there is no hardware failure, run the hardware test from the Vantage app. If the result is none, run the update through the same app and install all detected updates. Check if the issue is the same. Let us know.

There is no way to run diagnostics in the Lenovo Vantage app.

I spent 15 minutes looking at every page and every menu.

Was this removed?

@LordKeyboard: Did closing and re-opening the cover cause it to go away? rebooting?

Yes closing the cover and rebooting makes it go away.
