Sim card in X 300

2009-04-02, 11:01 AM

I have just put in my new sim card in my X300 thinkpad.

How do I get it to work?

I thought it would install automatically but nothing happens?

Is it something I have to do futhermore - with the 3G modem system?

If there is a place for installing the card (under the battery), isen't it enough?

welcome to the forum!

what model number of X300 do you have?   are you 100% sure that it has a WWAN card installed?

keep in mind that all X300s and X301s have a SIM slot regardless of whether they shipped with WWAN cards installed at the factory.   this is done to make these systems upgradeable in the future should the owner decide to install the card later.

This can be confusing, if not downright misleading.

In some markets the X300 was sold as "WWAN ready". Perhaps the X301 is as well - I haven't checked.

You would think that means ready to use, but it actually means "ready to have a WWAN card installed". The WWAN card is expensive to buy, and you will find it very much cheaper to buy a USB WWAN modem because they are usually subsidised by the network or even free.
