Re: Sleep Problems on Thinkpad X200!!!!!

2008-10-12, 16:18 PM

Perhaps the issue is:

'removing the AC adaptor cord to the laptop (with a battery in the unit) while the adaptor is plugged into the house power may cause thinkpad X200 mainboard power manager chip broken.'  if the laptop is in sleep mode.

I think that damaging the power management chip by pullting the 'hot' AC adaptor plug out would cause a FIRESTORM of posts, as I strongly suspect that this is the way most people do it.

Personaly, I don;t tend to use sleep mode much (i.e. not unless by mistake)

Dave

this doesn't sound normal whatsoever as there's no logical reason why lenovo (or anyone else for that matter) would create a notebook that had to be shut down just to unplug a/c power.

Really.  That would be very annoying and certainly isn't the way my X300 works (or how any of the notebooks from any manufacturer have worked, for that matter).

EDIT: mistakes, corrected ;-)

It has nothing to do with pulling the plug out while the computer is powered on.

Also, I started a thread about this problem some time ago, not knowing about this problem on other kinds of laptops.

I have a W500 and you can take a look at the thread over there: http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=W_ThinkPads&thread.id=436&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

We did find a "fix", but as I suspect, it's only a workaround to have sleep mode working when the motherboard still is broken.

Thanks Frensel for linking to this thread!

Re: Sleep Problems on Thinkpad X200!!!!!

I had the exact problem this morning then I decided following the path of what here suggested - system update.

when it promoted into BIOS update and OKed that AC power remain connect etc.

after few mins it completly shut itself down and not coming back up for about 40mins???

then I checked warrenty status it's still valid until 2011

and I called Lenovo Australia after long option menu in call blah blah blah........then explained exactly what happened

the staff said it is not covered under warrenty because I shut down the laptop during BIOS update process???

have you guys experienced such issues with the BIOS update and customer service?

I've had some real problems with their customer service.  They pretty much deny everything and transfer you to someone else.
