Spotty scrolling with trackpoint? (X250)

2015-04-05, 8:00 AM

When scrolling with the trackpoint, I find that the pages don't roll as smooth as the older Thinkpads did. My T410 scrolls much more smoothly than my X250, and I'm thinking that it is a driver issue. I have the latest Synaptics driver, which would be 18.1.27.14. I've tried rolling back the drivers, and it still doesn't improve the scrolling issue. Did anyone else experience this problem? Has anyone fixed it?

Also, as an aside, I've found that I could not play FPS games with trackpoint. The left and right buttons don't click immediately after typing. I always get killed right after sprinting because I'm standing there, unable to shoot. Other than that, the trackpoint is suprisingly easy to use for games.

I've noticed something similar running the same 18.1.27.14 driver on my W520.
Does trying to two-finger scroll on the touchpad temporarily make the TrackPoint scroll better?

Are you on Windows 7 or 8.x?

I played a good few months of BF3 on TrackPoint only when my proper mouse died, and it works very well for following a moving target.

No, the Trackpoint scrolling is consistently bad unless you scroll very slowly. Otherwise it moves in chunks of ~ 30 lines. The problem is especially bad with PDF files. I am on Windows 8.1 x64.

Does it scroll better in a different PDF reader?

The clicking thing should be fixable by telling Windows to not have a touchpad delay in Mouse settings.

Actually figured out the FPS thing yesterday by chance haha, now I'm getting respectable K/D ratios :)

No, it's also bad in Reader. There's isn't a single app or program that the Trackpoint scrolling works properly on. The T410 I had was so much smoother. I tried rolling back the drivers, and they did scroll better- but were worse in other aspects such as gestures.

Do you have TrackPoint scroll set to Standard or Smooth scrolling?

There is no option for smooth, only standard and traditional. It's set to traditional. Standard seemed worse after trying it.

Glad it's not just me...same thing in my 2015 X1...very poor trackpoint scrolling unless you go super slowly but it often gets out of control on me.  Praying Synaptics puts out a driver fix, and soon!!!!!

A new Synaptics driver that supports the X250 (and some X1Cs) was released on 4/10/15. You can find it here:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x250/downloads/DS101836

Please let me know if this improves the scrolling experience.

Thank you,

Scrolling seems to be back to normal in this driver on my W520. The sticky two-finger scroll also seems to be fixed.

EDIT: Belay that; the old scroll one line at a time bug is back.
