Re:Strange CPU behavior and thermal issues on X1 Extreme

2020-09-16, 13:23 PM

Hello,

I have installed Ubuntu in X1 Extreme Gen2. No windows in the laptop.

CPU is running supper crazy and hot, though I just do some mundane tasks. What could be the issue and how to solve this?

Thanks

Install cpufreq from the Gnome extension store:  https://extensions.gnome.org/

It is the only way I've found to reliably control the fans/heat from my p1gen2.

I have not used this, but if you're looking for an adaptive tool, this one was recommended to me:

Automatic CPU speed & power optimizer for Linux based on active monitoring of laptop's battery state, CPU usage and system load. Ultimately allowing you to improve battery life without making any compromises.

If you install this, would love to hear about the results.
