Swapping a HD from an X60s to an X200s

2009-04-06, 1:35 AM

I have recently purchased a x200s to replace my x60s. The x60s is running XP with a couple of boot partitions and third data partition.  The X200s will have Vista installed.  I've used Vista and would prefer to wait until Windows 7 comes out before doing all the work to set up the two boot partitions.  Can I just put the HD from the x60s into x200s and update the drivers and expect it to work?   I'll clone the x60s disk before I start just in case.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

It would not work out of the box, you have to install the x60s hdd in the x200s then restore the x60s hdd to factory condition, which would then ask for the serial number since the configuration of your x60s is different to the x200s. Finally you will have to download all the drivers for your x200s.

Any install using X60s drivers won't work with an X200s, due to the different chipset. It might be possible to boot up, likely into safe mode, uninstall the chipset drivers, and install the X60s drivers.

Does your X200s have Vista Business or higher? You can call up Lenovo support and request a set of XP downgrade CD's.
