System update possible on Lenovo website?

2013-03-27, 13:01 PM
Is it possible to do a review of one's computer on the Lenovo website similar to what is done on one's computer by ThinkVantage SystemUpdate? My SysUpdate is not working. After uninstalling totally (all files, including hidden files) and reinstalling smoothly, I still get error message "error collecting user information." So I would like to be able to go to the Lenovo website and do a "scan" of my system that will tell me what needs updating, so I can update manually item by item. Help!

There is no automated scan but you can go to the device driver matrix for your ThinkPad model, manually compare what's available there with what's installed on your system, then download/install any newer software.

What is the model of your ThinkPad and what version of Windows are you using?

Just to verify: you're downloading and installing the latest TVSU version?

IIRC one of the reasons that error message shows up is a version mismatch between TVSU and the servers.

I believe I used the latest TVSU update. The filename is "systemupdate e502-02-04-2013.exe" It installed smoothly. But I get the same error message I got before.

That looks right for Win 7 or 8.  There's a different one for XP and Vista.

You still haven't said what model machine you have and what OS you're running.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on an X220 4286-CTO, where I upgraded to a Samsung 830 256B SSD. My problem seems to have started (can't remember now) after I repartitioned the original HDD and cloned it to the SSD. All this went super smooth.
