Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2018 edition

So after calling customer service 3 times putting 1 to 2 hours between each call (they read back your number and say they'll call you back within 20 minutes and then never call you back) I finally got ahold of a CSR who was very nice. She said the September date was most likely an error due to them updating their system which would explain why OVP has been down the past 3 or 4 days. She said that they were going to check with the assembly team and email me about whats happening. I asked her about them charging my card and she said that was a second pre-authorization which I find to be very odd but that the laptop hasn't been shipped so it will be refunded. I'll keep you guys updated with the email if I actually receive it. So far I've been very disappointed in Lenovos customer service. Between now and the 26th I've called and emailed the Lenovo sales rep twice without a response.

@tresnugget, A second CC preauth is not uncommon (for any vendor/co.), as they're time limited and fall off. In situations where an initial order is pushed back, depending upon when the preauth drops, a new one is triggered/run, and is simply the same 'placeholder' of funds as the initial one. (preauth hold times are set by the banks and I believe fed rules though that may have changed)

@BrianSu, I'll note, for US models (shipped to US addresses, at least) there's no need to register, per detailed conversation w/cust. svc. I found this out due to getting an error while trying to self-register using their online account facility.

@lenardg

That was rhetorical - it just seems very odd. IF there's an option, I'd assume on a thinkpad it would default to backlit. I'd like to see how that 'option' breaks down in their order data over the last 10 yrs...maybe it's very common to not want/care about backlit, but I'd assume not unless it's a big corp. order at lower end configs. Even then, I can't imagine that being a very popular decision amongst those actually using them...

Aaaand I've one more to add to the data: ordered X280 on May 30th, ship notif. on June 4th & scheduled to arrive June 5th (I doubt/don't expect it will, if ship date is accurate, and should take at least a couple days). I'll update when received, certainly looks like another quick turnaround at this point.

UPDATE 6/5/18: (real) arrival estm. was 6/11, moved up to 6/8. If accurate: ordered May 30th, shipped June 4th, arrives June 8th (3days 'early'). From order to arrival: 10 days (8 business days), including ship time of 5 days. If deliv holds (even if a day or two optimistic) then another very good turnaround (3 now for me) w/Lenovo. Of course this is specific to my model/config., and it doesn't include overall satisfaction w/other ownership issues. I'll update if receipt date changes.

Update: my package was delivered to the UPS store down the street from me this morning (June 5). I signed up for UPS my choice after shipment and put in the request - no issues.

To recap: ordered on May 15 (HDR screen) and delivered on June 5 - 3 weeks to build and deliver.

Going to to pick up my X1C after work today and go through a checklist of things I had made. Hope all is well.

Awesome! Congrats, dude! I've spoken with few others who purchased the exact same specs as I did (HDR and LTE) and they're saying September 20th to 29th is what OVP is saying on their end. Hopefully I'll have mine sometime before then!

Just looked and I guess due to supply they have removed LTE modems from all x1c6 models which seems to be what's put a 4 month delay on my order. LTE is literally the only reason I went with the X1 and which made it the only ultra portable that checked all my boxes so I guess I'll have to wait it out.

why don’t you get the LTE card and install it yourself?
