Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2018 edition

Happy Lenovo customer! 12. June 18 i ordered two X1 Carbon 6th gen custom build, i7-8650U, 1TB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe M.2, added nonglare screen and LTE.  4 ultra docking stations, 2 wireless keyboard and mouse combo, 2 USB Keyboards, 1 Pres. Mouse, 4 USB-C Adapter.
Until 22. June i received 5 pakets with peripherals on different days. On 22. June Lenovo changed shipping date for the X1's to 28. June.
On 26. June Lenovo told the X1's are shipped, i received them 2. July from UPS.
The wait was worth it, they are fast, lightweigt and service friendly. With screws, not glued like others where you have to wait up to 20 days for a repair.

Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2018 edition

So I ordered mine (X1 Carbon 6th gen, 512 SSD, i7 8650, 2560 x 1440 screen with DV) on July 11th, and Lenovo said it would ship in three weeks. Now they pushed it back to shipping August 17th...expect I leave to head back to college on the 20th. Judging my the first 25 pages of the thread, it seems that Lenovo often beats the date and flip flops it around. So how likely will I receive it before I leave?

Hoenstly it's no biggy if I don't get it since my parents can just ship it to me and my current laptop can last another school year if aboslutely needed, but it would be hassle and a waste of money to do it.

I ordered mine on the 30th of May

Expected to ship on the 23rd of July

2-month wait and counting.

You could receive yours earlier if you're lucky

So this week they are selling these at rock bottom prices and saying that they will ship by July 31.

Sounds like a lie because it seems any configuration is ready to ship within 2 weeks. When I configured these before the more exotic options like the 500nit display needed a month to ship.

Now with these prices and these quoted shipping dates maybe they finally are ready to produce these machines. Maybe the finally got the assembly line in order and are ready to assemble them quickly to meet the demand created by these prices.

Still I wonder. I ordered July 22 and have a ship date of August 1. Seems too good to be true.

Every time I strayed from Thinkpads I wasn’t happy in general. Having said that those NEC LaVie machines (which Lenovo sold in the US for a time) were as close it got. Well they weighed 1.8 lbs and trust me you feel the difference. If NEC/Lenovo were to put a track point on that machine then I’d stop buying Thinkpads. 2.5lbs is heavy if you’re used to 1.8lbs.

Coming from a Yoga X1 IMHO its not worth the extra weight. I did it once and mostly for the OLED but I just ordered a regular laptop X1 this time. Everyone will feel differently. The only thing is how cool it folds to watch stuff on a flight. But really I prefer to just sleep on flights.

My ship date changed to August 18. I get the strategy. Lock you in with a great price through periodic sales. Promise an unrealistic ship date. Then change the date later as the price on the site goes up. So you get locked into a price you cannot resist compared to what it has gone up to. And you have to suck it up in terms of ship date.

It really depends. If you need the trackpoint or not. I have strayed from thinkpads into macs and I even had Matebook X (not pro). It’s pretty much a MacBook clone. The matebook X pro being a MacBook Pro clone. Much nice bezels of course but the overall feel was MacBook clone but running windows. You might like that or might not. Also the extra weight of the matebook x pro is a serious negative in my book.

The only machine I thought was nice to use outside of a thinkpad was a 1.8lb lavie z. The weight saving was worth the loss of trackpoint. Everyone has different priorities and for me weight is number one. Trackpoint is number 2.
